The kingfisher with its tiny body, brilliantly colored wings, and long beak is still to be seen occasionally, darting in and out amongst the flags and water weeds bordering some quiet stream or irrigation channel. Here, Hiroshige shows the bird, doubtless attracted by the scent of the flowers below, darting down out of the bright, empty sky of early summer. Another printing of the picture, put out by Kikakudo, has a somewhat different color scheme.
